Book has it all but for an ending including a complex plot, likeable protagonist, multiple twists and turns, well-developed characters, sharp dialogue and the list goes on and on. I'm generally stingy with the five star reviews (not about to troll through the nearly 2500 reviews I wrote to determine a percentage) and I would prefer a stand alone, but this debut book sells itself and I'll be purchasing the sequel as a result. This was a good read although I think it could have ended in a different way than the cliffhanger readers are given. Beginning with a serious of murders that look like suicides the investigation begins. As the crimes are found to be connected by the mysterious roman numerals that connect the dead, things get twisted and readers will have to keep an eye on where the story takes them. All in all I would say this is a good read and because it is actually a trllogy, there is more excitement to come. The author does a great job winding the story around and keeping readers interest through it all.
Very hard to put down, you won't be skipping pages here or you will miss crucial facts. Well written and intriguing. One of the best I've read in a long time.
The plot twists and turns so it kept me interested. I thought I knew what was going to happen but then..... I would suggest this book. It's a little long but worth reading,
One negative is the number of characters and the long-hyphenated British names--I almost needed a score card to keep them all straight and whose side they were playing on.
Aside from translating the English language, this is definetly one of the best books I have ever picked up! It holds your attention through every page, right to the last one and makes you beg for more.
CXVI was my first book by Author Angie Smith, but I’m pretty sure it won’t be my last. A flawless thriller that keeps you entertained all the way to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development of the main characters, Greg and Maria. Sometimes during character development the plot or story can become bogged down, but not in this case. The character development actually enhances the plot.
If you love British thrillers I can highly recommend this one. The cliff hanger ending was a little disappointing, however this is a trilogy, and I totally understand why it was done that way and I’m looking forward to Book 2 and Book 3.
Angie Smith (No relation) with her book CXVI, ticks all the boxes with this tale and more. There were some complex situations and the author managed beautifully to keep them all together in the timeline. The characters became crystal clear in my mind and yet there were no tediously endless details describing them, instead she left it for the reader to create much of the finer details in their own minds and I found that technique clever and quite appealing. The storyline was well timed throughout and the momentum built as I got further and further into the story. Towards the end I found it almost impossible to put down. Unfortunately it ended on a complete cliff hanger so I now have to wait until the sequel is published, hopefully very soon. I place CXVI by Angie Smith in the best books I've read over the last 10 years - and I read a lot of books.
Let me clear from the outset, I completely enjoyed the entire experience the charaters, the plot, the writing. However I will not read the second nor the third book for one reason I abhor cliff hangers! I don't mind if the the book leaves the reader wondering what will happen as long as there is some closure in the first book. Not so in this case. The writer leaves the reader totally danging thus forcing me to definitely
run and get the second book. Not this reader. Even if the second book is free, I will pass. Pity.
PS. I wrote "I don't know" for the question because I think the author basically narrated the story and this wasn't given as a choice, so at first I clicked on "Alternating persons" .
